Directions from St. Louis (Lambert) Airport*

Light rail line – Metrolink

From the Main Terminal (Concourses A, B, C and D) come out past the security checkpoint and take the escalator up one floor. Look for the sign for Metrolink, which is near the D Concourse (toward the East). From the East Terminal (Concourse E / Southwest Airlines) walk out the front and follow the signs for Metrolink. Ticket. Buy a single one-way ticket from the machine. This ticket will be already “validated” by the machine. It is an honor system, so someone on the train may or may not ask to see your ticket. Getting On and Off the Train. The stop for the Main Terminal is the end of the line, so just get on the next train out. The East Terminal is one stop away, so make sure you are headed downtown (east). Get off at the “Central West End” stop, which is after the Forest Park stop. It takes about 20 min, about 9 stops. Come up the stairs at the west end of the platform onto S. Euclid Avenue (see map).

Taxi

Walk toward the baggage claim and then out the exit marked for Taxis. The cab stand is straight ahead, just inside the garage. Tell the driver you want to go to the Washington University Medical School, which is across the street from Barnes-Jewish Hospital. (You do NOT want to go to the Washington University main campus.) The travel time should be ~20 min. (This is St. Louis – the chance that the driver will not know the way or will try to cheat you is near zero.)

Driving

The rental car lots of different companies at the airport are in slightly different places. Therefore, ask at the rental car lot how to get onto Route 170 (Not 70!) South. Take 170 South about 5 miles to its termination on Route 64/40. Drive East on 64/40, toward St. Louis. Travel a few miles and several exits to the exit for Kingshighway – North. Go north for a few lights, then turn right onto Forest Park Parkway and the next right onto Euclid Avenue. The North Garage will be on your left. (You can also map to the North Garage, just make sure it’s on Euclid near Forest Park Parkway.)

Finding the lab

Once you get to the McDonnell Pediatrics Building look for an elevator lobby with four elevators that is between the main atrium and Euclid Avenue. Go to the 10th floor and through the glass partition and you will walk into my lab. If the partition is locked, call the lab (phone and phone list are at the right of the door). If you are driving and just want to stop for a few minutes for dropoff or pickup, there are three 15 minute parking spots just to the north of the building (blue stars on map). In that case come in the nearest entrance to the building (blue dot on map) to the lobby, turn left and the four elevators will be on your right.

Directions for Driving Here from Out of Town*

If you use a mapping website, get directions to 4905 Parkview Place, St Louis, MO 63110; that is the south door of the building. See the map and instructions above for when you get to the campus.

From the West: Interstate 70 East to I-170 South to I-64/40 East to the Kingshighway North Exit.

From the East or North: Interstate 70 West, 55 South, and 64 West merge together in Illinois. As you cross the bridge over the Mississippi River (the Arch will be on your right), move over to the left. Follow the signs for I-64/40 West and proceed about 5 miles to Exit 36, Kingshighway North.

From the South: Take Interstate 55 North to downtown St. Louis. Take I-44 West (do NOT go over the Mississippi River to Illinois). Take the Kingshighway exit, and continue north a mile or so, crossing over I-64/40, then continue from the directions above.

*These directions were modified from the great directions on John Cooper’s web page – thanks!!
